SRINAGAR: On an eventful day at the Jammu base camp Yatri Niwas, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha officially commenced the Amarnath Yatra pilgrimage by flagging off the first group of pilgrims. The initial batch was later received by the district administration at the Kali Mata Temple in Tikri, situated in Udhampur district. However, the day also saw an unfortunate incident on the national highway in Udhampur district, as a vehicle from the Amarnath security convoy skidded off the road. As a result, a deputy superintendent of police (DSP) and two others sustained injuries and were immediately taken to the hospital for treatment.

Dr. Vinood Kumar, in a conversation with the media, confirmed that the mishap occurred in the Bali Nallah area when an escort vehicle lost control, overturning and causing injuries to three individuals. Despite this incident, the Amarnath Yatra pilgrimage continued, with over 3,500 pilgrims already present at the Jammu base camp, ready for their onward journey.

Over 3,500 pilgrims had gathered at the Jammu base camp, ready to embark on their pilgrimage to the revered Amarnath shrine. The Yatra commenced with the ceremonial flag-off from the base camp by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on a Friday morning. With utmost importance placed on security, a comprehensive multi-tier security setup was established. The CRPF troops provided complete protection to the first batch, while the Army and police ensured area domination throughout the journey.

The district administration and officials have left no stone unturned in ensuring a smooth and welcoming experience for the pilgrims. The commissioner confirmed that all necessary arrangements were in place, and the district administration was fully prepared to receive and assist the pilgrims. As part of the registration process, each pilgrim was provided with an RFID tag at the registration center, which is mandatory for the pilgrimage.

The safety of the pilgrims remained a top priority, with a multi-tier security setup in place. The first batch of pilgrims was fully guarded by CRPF troops, while the Army and police ensured area domination to enhance security further. The Chairman of the Shri Amarnath Shrine Board, L-G Sinha, personally reviewed the arrangements at the yatri niwas base camp on Thursday to ensure everything was well-prepared.

Despite the unfortunate incident, the commencement of the Amarnath Yatra proceeded as planned, thanks to the dedicated efforts of the authorities involved. The incident serves as a reminder of the challenges faced during the pilgrimage, reinforcing the importance of the elaborate security arrangements and measures put in place to safeguard the pilgrims. The incident further highlights the commitment of the administration to ensure a safe and spiritually fulfilling experience for all pilgrims participating in the Amarnath Yatra.

“All arrangements are in place and the district administration is on its toes to welcome the pilgrims,” the commissioner said. “Pilgrims shall be provided RFID Tag at the registration centre itself which is mandatory with the pilgrims permit,” the official said.
