NEW DELHI: In the wake of heavy rainfall and subsequent floods in Gujarat and rising water levels in the Yamuna river in Delhi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah promptly engaged with state authorities to address the crisis. On a proactive approach, he spoke with Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel and Delhi Lieutenant Governor V K Saxena on Sunday to enquire about the flood-like situation and water levels, respectively, in their respective regions.

Gujarat's southern and Saurashtra regions experienced heavy to very heavy rainfall on Saturday, leading to floods in urban areas and isolating villages. Dams and rivers surged to dangerous levels, posing significant challenges for the affected population. To tackle this calamity, Union Home Minister Amit Shah reached out to Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel to discuss the ongoing situation and assess the needs for relief and rescue operations.

Meanwhile, in Delhi, the Yamuna River's water level breached the danger mark again on Sunday due to an increase in discharge from the Hathnikund barrage, triggered by heavy rainfall in parts of Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh. The rising water levels posed a potential threat to low-lying areas of the national capital, impacting ongoing relief and rehabilitation efforts.

Taking to Twitter, Amit Shah shared his engagements, affirming his discussions with both Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel and Delhi Lieutenant Governor V K Saxena. He assured the availability of ample teams from the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) to aid the affected populace in both regions. The collaboration between the central and state governments aimed to streamline relief efforts and minimize the impact on lives and property.
