NEW DELHI: Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal met Home Minister Amit Shah to review the current situation in Delhi.

After meeting with Home Minister Amit Shah, the Delhi CM said, "The police will be sent wherever they are needed, the centre has told me."

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal called for sealing the city's border in areas that witnessed violence over the amended citizenship act to prevent "outsiders" from entering the national capital and creating a commotion.

"The police personnel could not do anything because they were not getting orders from their seniors. I will raise this with Home Minister Amit Shah Ji. They can't decide whether there should be tear-gassing or lathi-charging without orders from above," Kejriwal told reporters.

According to Kejriwal, the meeting with Home Minister was positive and it was decided that the political parties have ensured to make Delhi peaceful again.

In the meeting with the CM and other important officials, Shah took stock of the situation in Delhi in the wake of violence shaking parts of North- East Delhi.

Shah has also directed officials to ‘restore normalcy at the earliest’.

Speaking about the current situation the Delhi CM said, "The police constable who was killed and others who have been injured are all our people, they are the people of Delhi. This is not a good situation. Those whose homes and shops have been burnt down, they are part of someone's family”.

7 people were killed and approximately 100 were injured in clashes in northeast Delhi between those who support the Citizenship (Amendment) Act and those who are protesting against it.

The police fired teargas shells. Metro stations have been shut down in the area as a precautionary measure. Metro rail stations that have been shut down include the Maujpur-Babarpur and the Seelampur metro station, adding to the overall congestion and chaos prevailing in the area. More security forces are being directed to the spot from other areas including nearby Jaffrabad.

The violence happened at the time of US President Donald Trump and his family on a two-day visit to India.
