Amit Shah Becomes India's 1st Minister of Newly Formed Ministry of Cooperation

NEW DELHI: Union Home Minister Amit Shah has become India's first Minister of newly formed Ministry of Cooperation on Wednesday. The Ministry of Cooperation affairs came after as many as 43 ministers took oath in a major cabinet expansion-cum-reshuffle on the same day while 12 ministers were dropped. Ministers of state GK Reddy, Parshottam Rupala, Anurag Thakur, Hardeep Singh Puri, Mansukh Mandaviya, RK Singh, and Kiren Rijiju, were raised as cabinet ministers while 36 new inductees were confirmed, which includes - Ministry of Cooperatives and Poverty Alleviation, Ministry of Land Management Cooperatives and Poverty Alleviation, Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives, Ministry of Agriculture Land Management and Cooperatives Nepal, Ministry of Finance and Economic Cooperation Ethiopia, Ministry of Small and Medium Enterprises and Cooperative Development, Department of Agriculture and Cooperation Ministry of Agriculture, Ministry of Land Management Agriculture and Cooperative Province 3, Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperation Govt of India, Ministry of Investment and International Cooperation, Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic cooperation.

On Tuesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had made new 'Ministry of Cooperation,' hoping to provide added catalyst to the cooperative movement in the country. It is to be noted that "Sahkar se samriddhi" (Prosperity from cooperation) is the vision of the Ministry of Cooperation.

The release stated that this ministry will give a different administrative, legal, and policy framework for reinforcing the cooperative movement in the country. It will assist with deepen co-operatives as a genuine people-based movement reaching up to the grassroots.

According to the government, a cooperative-based economic development model is applicable to India, with every member working with a spirit of responsibility. This new ministry will attempt to streamline processes to guarantee the simplicity of working together for cooperatives and empower the development of multi-state co-operatives.

As the new ministry has been chosen by BJP Govt, Amit Shah along with Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman had made in her Budget speech this year. While introducing the Budget, she said that the government is focused on the improvement and development of multi-state cooperatives and will offer all help to them. To additionally streamline the simplicity of working together for cooperatives, she proposes to set up a different administrative structure for them.
