DIBRUGARH: A Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee team, along with family members of pro- Khalistani leader Amritpal Singh and nine of his associates lodged at Dibrugarh Central Jail, arrived here in Dibrugarh today.

Family members of Waris Punjab De chief Amritpal Singh are included in the 10-member team from Punjab which arrived in Dibrugarh today.

As per reports, the team which arrived here from Punjab includes Amritpal Singh’s father Tarsem Singh and a legal team from Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee.

Advocate Bhagwant Singh Sialka is also included in the team of members of the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC).

Advocate Sialka is reportedly here in order to arrange a meeting between the Sikh youth being held in Assam’s Dibrugarh Central Jail and their family members from Punjab.

The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) is bringing a legal team for consultation with the nine Waris Punjab De members detained from Punjab under the National Security Act (NSA) and lodged in Central Jail, Dibrugarh, Assam. SGPC has also arranged for their jail meetings with their kin today.

Meanwhile, security in-and-around the Dibrugarh Central Jail has been tightened ahead of the arrival of the team from Punjab.

There were also intelligence inputs about sympathizers of Amritpal Singh and his Waris Punjab De associates arriving in Dibrugarh to stage protests in front of the jail where they are lodged. Accordingly, a sharp lookout was being kept on all Dibrugarh- bound flights and trains originating from Delhi and Punjab, to thwart any such attempt to stage protests as a show of support and solidarity with the WPD members.

Amritpal Singh had been engaged in promoting Khalistan and was providing arms training to WPD members. He had also formed plans for a separate army and even currency of Khalistan. Large amounts of money were being routed into his organisation from abroad, according to media reports.

It needs to be mentioned here that Amritpal Singh and his associates are being interrogated by central intelligence agencies at the Dibrugarh jail for their activities related to their advocacy of a separate state of Khalistan.
