Andhra Pradesh: CM Jagan Reddy to Inaugurate Veligonda Project Next Month

AMARAVATI: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy has announced that the inauguration of the Veligonda project will take place next month.

He shared this news during a public gathering in Dhone, Nandyal district, emphasizing the government's commitment to the development of the water-scarce Rayalaseema region. Since 2019, the government has been actively working to complete pending irrigation projects, focusing on strengthening canal systems and increasing reservoir storage capacities.

"Our focus has been on strengthening the canal systems and enhancing the reservoirs’ storage capacities," Reddy said.

Reddy also highlighted the enhancement of the Gajuladinne project in Nandyal district, which now has a storage capacity of 5tmc feet, up from 4.5tmc feet. Additionally, he emphasized the significant progress in irrigation facilities, with over 10,000 acres benefiting from the lift irrigation scheme in Lakka Sagaram.

The Veligonda project is a significant irrigation scheme aimed at enhancing agricultural productivity and water availability in the region. With its dedication scheduled for next month, farmers and residents of the region can anticipate the positive impact it will have on their lives.

This project has been a key priority for the state government, and its completion marks a significant milestone in the efforts to address water scarcity and support agricultural development in Andhra Pradesh. The upcoming inauguration signifies a major step forward in achieving these objectives.

During the recent address, it was revealed by the chief minister that the previous government had allocated only Rs 13 crore for the Handri Neeva Sujala Sravanti project. In contrast, during Y.S. Rajasekhar Reddy's tenure as Chief Minister, a substantial sum of Rs 6,000 crore was allocated to expedite the completion of pending projects.

Additionally, the capacity of the Pothireddypadu project has been increased from 44,000 cusecs to an impressive 80,000 cusecs.

To address the historical challenges related to water supply to the Srisailam reservoir until it reaches its Full Reservoir Level of 885 feet, plans for the Rayalaseema Lift Irrigation Scheme were discussed. This scheme aims to alleviate water scarcity in the region by sourcing water from as low as the 800 feet level of Srisailam.

The event witnessed the participation of several prominent figures, including Water Resources Minister Ambati Rambabu, Finance Minister Buggana Rajendranath, legislators, MPs, MLCs, local leaders, and more.
