New Delhi: The Supreme Court of India has extended the interim bail of Arnab Goswami along with the other two, who were arrested for the abetment to a suicide case of Anvay Naik. The interim bail will continue until and unless the Bombay High Court disposes their plea.

The SC earlier granted bail to Goswami on November 11 on a bond of Rs 50,000.

The SC also stated that criminal law should not become a weapon of selective harassment of citizens and the judiciary should look after it. Justice DY Chandrachud headed a bench on Friday and gave the reasons for granting bail relief to Goswami and the other two. It said that his interim bail will be operative for another four weeks.

The bench further said that the SC, HC, and lower courts "must be alive to the misuse of criminal law by the state machinery."

The Republic TV Editor-in-Chief, Goswami was arrested on November 2 from his residence in connection with the suicide case of Anvay Naik. He along with the other two were arrested based on the suicide note written by Naik, where he mentioned that three of the accused owed him money worth Rs 5 crores. Naik was an architect-interior designer from Mumbai. He along with his mother were found dead in their apartment in 2018.
