AHMEDABAD: Members of Bajrang Dal burnt a copy of Kama Sutra in front of a bookstore at Ahmedabad city in Gujarat recently after they claimed the book displays Hindu Gods in "vulgar positions".
As per media reports, the Hindutva group raised slogans of "Jai Shri Ram" and "Har Har Mahadev" while burning the book. Videos of the incident have been doing the rounds on social media.
After destroying the book, the Bajrang Dal members threatened the bookstore owner that they would turn the bookstore into ashes if it does not stop selling copies of Kama Sutra henceforth. Kama Sutra, which has been written by Indian philosopher Vatsyayana in Sanskrit language, is regarded as the most popular book on love and sex.
Bajrang Dal remains under the media spotlight quite often across the country for its various kinds of activities, especially on Valentine's Day, which is considered as a day to express love and romance.
Five members of the group were arrested on February 14 this year for allegedly indulging in vandalism in Kattupalli, Hyderabad. In Nagpur (on the same day) the group's members took out rallies raising slogans of "Valentine Day Murdabad". In Gujarat, the Bajrang Dal's protests against Valentine's Day celebrations wore even more aggressive colours with the members chasing away couples after finding them spending time together. The group's members vandalised a shopping mall in Telangana, Hyderabad. A large number of Bajrang Dal members were detained across the country on that day.
In Assam's Silchar town, the group had warned people last year to beat them up if they visited Churches on December 25 (Christmas Day).
