NEW DELHI: On Friday, June 2, a collision between the Coromandel Express and the Bengaluru-Howrah Superfast Express resulted in at least 280 fatalities and over 900 injuries. Between Bengal's Shalimar station in West Bengal and Chennai, there is a train called the Coromandel Express. A substantial number of passengers were killed as a result of the crash, which happened close to Bahanaga railway station.
According to reports, around 7 p.m. on Friday, a train crashed near the Bahanaga Baazar station in the Balasore district, roughly 250 km south of Kolkata and 170 km north of Bhubaneswar.
The next of kin of those who passed away will also receive an ex gratia payment of Rs. 10 lakh, along with Rs. 2 lakh for grave injuries and Rs. 50,000 for mild ones, from the railway ministry. The Prime Minister's Office (PMO) has also declared a compensation of Rs 2 lakh for each deceased person and Rs 50,000 for those hurt in the accident.
The Railway Ministry immediately ordered an investigation. Naveen Patnaik, the chief minister of Odisha, has organised all available resources for the search and rescue efforts following the Coromandel Express tragedy.

Moreover, The Indian Army has been sent in to help with the evacuation and medical care of injured people. The Eastern Command has sent out medical and engineering teams with ambulances and support staff. To get to the incident site as quickly as possible, the teams have been routed from many locations.
A high level committee will be established to investigate the train tragedy, according to Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw's statement on Saturday. Vaishnaw stated in a statement to reporters, "A detailed high-level inquiry will be conducted, and the rail safety commissioner will also do an independent inquiry."
The accident scene in Balasore will also be visited by Mamata Banerjee. Mamata voiced her horror over the terrible event. She spoke with Naveen Patnaik, the chief minister of Odisha, to address the situation, and she promised him that she would offer all the help she could in the rescue and medical efforts.
According to sources, PM Narendra Modi will travel to Odisha today. He would go to the accident site in Balasore first, and then he will go to the hospital in Cuttack.
