Golden girl Hima Das is honoured in a special way on the occasion of the International Tiger Day. Bengaluru based biological park, Bannerghatta Biological Park has taken to honour the 2018 Asian Games gold medalist Hima Das by naming a six-month-old tigress Hima. This is indeed something very special for a sportsperson of the country to get a new recognition and honour for her outstanding performances.
A first look of the tiger cub could be seen on July 28 when spectators could witness the cub in the safari area of the Biological Park. The tigress cub was seen along with three other males and five female tigers.
International Tiger Day, this year, has been celebrated in India with special importance and spirit. The biological park has even scheduled a range of programmes as well to make the visitors understand and realize the importance of the endangered species. Before this, the news of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi taking part in a special episode shoot for Man vs Wild has also gone viral as the PM will be seen in the show with host Bear Grylls in Jim Corbett National Park based in Uttarakhand.
As stated by PM Modi, India is the home to 3000 tigers now and with this, the nation should gear up the spirit of conserving the species. Notably, Karnataka has a total population of 406 which is the highest in the country at present.
The very reason behind celebrating July 29 as the International Tiger Day is to spread the much-needed awareness among people about the endangered species which is experiencing a decreased population around the world.
Although Hima Das is not the one and only sports figure to be adorned with this honour, she certainly is one after Indian cricket team former skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni and women’s cricket team captain Mithali Raj. The Bannerghatta Rescue Centre has, earlier, named two sloth bears after MS Dhoni and Mithali Raj.
