New Delhi: The protesting farmers at Singhu Border, Delhi have called for a Bharat Bandh on December 8. The Bharat Bandh is from 11 in the morning to 3 in the afternoon.
The protesting farmers have called for this 'peaceful' protest ahead of the sixth round of talks with the government regarding the farm laws. Thousands of farmers have been protesting the Delhi border since the last month. They have been protesting against the Centre's farm laws, which were earlier passed by the Parliament. They have been in talks with the government to repeal these farm laws.
The spokesperson of Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU), Rakesh Tikait said, "The protest is to show that we don't support some government policies." The peaceful nationwide shutdown on December 8 has gained support from several unions along with the opposition parties. The farmers have said that the protest will be peaceful and it will continue in that way. The Centre, however, has issued a nationwide advisory, which suggests 'tight security' for 'peaceful protests' and also, to ensure that all the COVID-19 protocols are followed.
The Bharat Bandh will most likely to be well-observed in Punjab. Sit in protests by several opposition parties were staged in Delhi, Maharashtra, Karnataka, West Bengal, Telangana, Assam and Tripura, to show support towards the protesting farmers.
The farmers have been urging people around the country to support their cause non-violently as their protest was not meant to cause problems for the ordinary man.
Services like ambulances, events like weddings can go on tomorrow, said BKU Spokesperson Tikait.
Various exams have been rescheduled due to the protest. The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India postponed its Chartered Accounts Foundation Examination paper-1, which was scheduled tomorrow to December 13.
