CHANDIGARH: In a recent development, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) took a stern decision to expel four of its prominent leaders in Punjab for their involvement in what the party terms as 'anti-party activities.' The expelled leaders are Dalvinder Singh Dhillon, Kuldeep Singh, Gurpreet Singh, and Nimisha Mehta, all hailing from the Hoshiarpur district of Punjab.
The party released an official statement regarding this expulsion, stating, "From the perusal of evidence received, it has been found that the following persons from the Garshankar assembly constituency are guilty of the breach as per article XXV of the constitution of the BJP and thus, as per the decision of the state president in consultation with the disciplinary committee, are hereby expelled from the party and from the responsibilities/assignments if any assigned to them with immediate effect." This statement was issued by Jiwan Gupta, the general secretary of the BJP's state unit.
This decision comes shortly after the appointment of Sunil Jakhar as the BJP's Punjab unit chief earlier this year. Jakhar, in response to his appointment, voiced his commitment to restoring the faith of the people in democracy and establishing the BJP as the primary political alternative in Punjab. He expressed concern about the state's current situation, citing a growing burden of loans and a deteriorating law-and-order scenario. Jakhar further asserted that an atmosphere of fear prevails across Punjab, leaving its residents feeling unsafe.
In the midst of these political developments, Punjab's Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader, Bhagwant Mann, launched a scathing attack on the BJP. He accused the party of "living in arrogance" following its victory in the Lok Sabha elections for the second time. Mann boldly declared that the public would ultimately break this perceived arrogance, indicating the intensity of the political rivalry in the state.
The expulsion of these four BJP leaders underscores the ongoing power struggle within Punjab's political landscape. With the BJP's new leadership under Sunil Jakhar and AAP's Bhagwant Mann's assertive stance, the state is witnessing a highly charged political climate. The coming months will likely witness further political maneuvering and confrontations as these parties vie for supremacy in Punjab.
The BJP's expulsion of four prominent leaders in Punjab for 'anti-party activities' marks a significant development in the state's political landscape. This move has added fuel to the already intense political rivalry in Punjab, with both the BJP and AAP positioning themselves as formidable contenders in the state's political arena.
