NEW DELHI: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is actively preparing for the upcoming Assembly elections in five states later this year. The party has convened a crucial meeting of its Central Election Committee (CEC) at its national headquarters in the capital city. Attending the meeting are notable figures, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, BJP National President JP Nadda, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, along with 15 other CEC members.

The party's attention is primarily directed towards the states of Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan, Telangana, and Mizoram, where polls are scheduled. A key focus of the meeting is to strengthen the BJP's presence in constituencies where its position is relatively weaker. Deliberations will encompass the selection of candidates and the formulation of an effective campaign strategy. To this end, the party has compiled a list of constituencies requiring heightened attention.

Reports indicate that state leaders will provide valuable insights into grassroots efforts, particularly in conveying the benefits of welfare schemes under the BJP-led central government. Notably, leaders from Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh, such as Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, state BJP Chief VD Sharma, and Chhattisgarh BJP Chief Arun Sao, are expected to join the CEC meeting due to their involvement in election campaigns.

Among the significant decisions projected during this meeting are those concerning the Assembly elections in Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh, both scheduled to take place by the year's end. The CEC meeting traditionally focuses on finalizing candidate names for Legislative Assembly and Lok Sabha elections, often after the Election Commission announces election dates. However, this time, the BJP has organized the CEC meeting prior to the announcement of election dates.

During this extraordinary CEC session, the party will engage in thorough discussions about constituencies where it faces a weaker standing, particularly in Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh. The intention is to preemptively identify candidates for these susceptible constituencies. While their names will remain confidential initially, these candidates will receive confirmation from the party and be directed to initiate their campaign activities. By the time official election schedules are unveiled, the selected candidates should ideally hold an advantage over their rivals.

In essence, the BJP's CEC meeting underscores the party's proactive approach in strategizing and candidate selection, signifying its determination to secure favorable outcomes in the upcoming state elections.
