Guwahati: Home Minister Amit Shah defended the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and blamed Congress for instigating protests against CAA.

Speaking at Abhinandan Samaroh in Jodhpur, the BJP leader blamed the Congress for spreading misinformation and misguiding the youngsters of the country.

“The people of the opposition are misleading the country that it will lose the citizenship of the Muslims of India, but I want to assure you that this law is to give citizenship, not to take away citizenship," he assured.

He took a dig at various parties opposing CAA and asked them to consider the plight of Hindu refugees who fled persecution.

“I want to tell Mamata didi that Bengali speaking refugee Hindus, what have the Dalits done, why are they opposing their citizenship," he said

He accused the Congress of practicing vote bank politics and insulting people like Veer Savarkar.

"Shame on Congressmen - shame on them. The greed of the vote bank also has its limits. Congress has insulted great men like Veer Savarkar for vote bank," he said.

He urged the gathering to give a miss call on 88662-88662 to extend support in CAA.

That will be a befitting reply to Rahul Baba, Mamta Didi, Kejriwal, he said.

There have been countrywide protests against the contentious Citizenship Amendment Act since it was passed in the Rajya Sabha. A scuffle between police and students had left many dead and several injured.
