Brawl Turned Bloody: Nihang Sikhs Murder Man In Amritsar Over Chewing Tobacco

AMRITSAR: Moral policing is on the rise in India and in one such case in Amritsar, three assailants including Two Nihang Sikhs(Armed Sikhs) hacked a man to death as he was chewing tobacco near the holy Golden Temple. 

The incident took place in the Hari Mandir Saheb area barely a kilometer away from the holy Golden Temple. 

CCTV footage shows the three assailants getting into an argument with the man on the street over the man chewing tobacco near the holy temple. The argument quickly turned violent with one of the assailants placing a sword on the victim's neck. 

Quickly the brawl turned bloody and the three assailants including the two Nihang Sikhs overpowered the man and hacked him to death. The three assailants after killing the man walked out of the scene with onlookers gathering around the deceased. 

The body of the deceased was kept lying overnight and no one from the public came forward to rush the man to a hospital. The police came to know about the body in the morning and quickly rushed to the spot.

After looking at the CCTV footage, two people are arrested so far and one is still out in the open air. 

The identity of the victim is yet to be established, officials said, adding that he belonged to the Chatiwind area some 9 kilometers from the spot he was killed. 

In a similar incident in August this year, a 72-year-old man was beaten up by 15 people in Dayalpur village in the Merapani area of Assam's Golaghat district. The 72-year-old, Boga Basumatary was accused of poisoning some ducks to death in the village.

Basumatary, a resident of the Dayalpur Jugesi Pathar village, was picked up from his home by the group along with his friend Haitha Basumatary and both of them were thrashed on suspicion of killing the ducks. The group also allegedly demanded a fine of Rs 14,500 from Basumatary.
