AMRITSAR: On June 8, the Border Security Force (BSF) discovered a Pakistani drone that had violated Indian airspace along the International Border in Punjab's Amritsar sector. The drone, identified as a DJI Matrice 300RTK series Quadcopter, was recovered in a damaged state from a farming field near Bhaini Rajputana village.
Upon hearing the buzzing sound of the suspected drone at around 9 pm on June 7, the BSF personnel immediately responded and joined forces with the Punjab Police to conduct a joint search operation. During the operation, they successfully located the broken drone near the Rajatal-Bharopal-Daoke tri-junction on the outskirts of Bhaini Rajputana.
In a separate incident, the BSF also seized over two kilograms of heroin that were airdropped by another Pakistani drone in Tarn Taran district.
This recent discovery comes after the BSF shot down a Pakistani drone near the Wagah-Attari international border in Amritsar on June 5, which was found to be carrying narcotics." As per the laid down drill, the BSF troops immediately reacted to intercept the drone, and successfully downed the Pak drone with the contraband," the BSF has said in an official statement after the operation.
Furthermore, on June 3, the Border Security Force, in collaboration with the Punjab Police, uncovered a significant consignment of heroin dropped by Pakistani drones near the outskirts of Amritsar's Rai village. The security forces suspected the drones after hearing their buzzing sound and subsequently discovered the drug consignment.
The BSF tweeted, "Troops of BSF Punjab & Punjab Police while deployed in depth area on the intervening night of 2/3 June 23, heard the movement of drone & dropping by it. During the search, 1 big packet (Gross Wt -5.5 kg) of Heroin was recovered from farming fields of Village- Rai, District Amritsar."
These incidents highlight the ongoing challenges faced by Indian security forces in countering the use of drones for smuggling activities across the border. The recovery of the Pakistani drone and the seizure of narcotics demonstrate the vigilance and successful efforts of the BSF and Punjab Police in safeguarding the border and curbing illegal activities.
