Karnataka BJP MLA G Somasekhara Reddy stirred fresh controversy by making what many interpret as objectionable remarks against minorities and anti CAA protestors.

Taking a dig at those agitating against CAA, he said, "It's just a caution for those who are protesting against the Citizenship Amendment Act. We are 80 percent and you (Muslims) are 18 percent. Imagine what will happen if we take charge," said BJP MLA Somashekar Reddy.

The Congress delegation has filed a complaint with police against the remark

The minister went on to add, "Beware of the majority when you live in this country. This is our country. If you want to live here, you will have to, like the Australian Prime Minister said, follow the country's traditions."

Various parts of India erupted in massive protests over Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) that aims to protect Hindus, Sikhs, Buddhists, Jains, Parsis and Christians from Afghanistan, Bangladesh and Pakistan by giving them Indian Citizenship.

The legislation applies to those who were “forced or compelled to seek shelter in India due to persecution on the ground of religion." These people will be given citizenship in six years.

Previously, anyone seeking Indian citizenship was required to prove 12 years of residence in the country, enabling a foreigner to become a naturalized citizen of India.

The cut-off date for those to be given citizenship in India has been fixed at, on or before December 31, 2014.
