New Delhi: The board secretary of Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), Anurag Tripathi said that the Class 10 and 12 boards examination will be conducted and the schedule will soon be announced.

In view of the rising cases of COVID-19, many have demanded cancellation or postponement of examination. While addressing a webinar on "New Education Policy (NEP): Brighter future of school education," the secretary said that the board is making plans and will soon disclose how it will do the test assessment. However, Tripathi did not mention any specific format and month for the exam.

Due to the nationwide lockdown, the schools across the country were shut down. However, a few opened partially from October 15.

The board exams of 2019-20 were postponed in the midway, which were cancelled later. The results were announced based on the alternative assessment.

However, several parents, as well as students, have demanded the postponement of the board exams to May as all the teaching-learning activities are being conducted in online mode, which is not very interactive and many can not afford too.

Speaking on the new National Education Policy (NEP), Tripathi said, "the entire NEP 2020's thrust and the main aim is to make a shift to skill and competency-based education".

He further said that there is a need to move the students from "knowledge-based education to competency and skill-based learning." To implement skill-based learning, the education system needs to transform and follow "entire pedagogy based teaching-learning process be it classroom teaching, face-to-face teaching or online teaching."

Tripathi said this new pedagogy based process is about making the student more innovative, creative and curious about things, which can be achieved only when the schools change their teaching pedagogy.
