The Central government has rejected Pakistan's decision to reopen Kartarpur Sahib Corridor on Saturday, June 27.
It was supposed to reopen on June 29 to mark the death anniversary of Maharaja Ranjit Singh.
India has reportedly declined the offer in order to contain the spread of Covid 19.
Describing Pakistan's proposal to open the corridor in 2 days as a mirage of goodwill, Indian Government stated said this would only undermine the bilateral agreement which required India to share information with Pakistan a week before the date of travel.
As per sources, any further decision would be taken in consultation with the health authorities and other stakeholders.
Pakistan Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi shared a tweet on June 27 quoting" As places of worship open up across the world, Pakistan prepares to reopen the Kartarpur Sahib Corridor for all Sikh pilgrims, conveying to the Indian side our readiness to reopen the corridor on 29 June 2020, the occasion of the death anniversary of Maharaja Ranjeet Singh."
It is to be mentioned that the Kartarpur gurudwara in Pakistan had been temporarily closed since March as the COVID-19 pandemic hit the two countries.
