Chennai: A man from Chennai, who was under trial for a false rape case, has been awarded a compensation amount of Rs 15 lakh by a court in Chennai. The falsely accused, Santosh, won the compensation suit against a woman, who made false accusations of Santosh raping her and making her pregnant. However, the DNA test of the child born did not match with Santosh.

The parents of Santosh arranged a girl for him to get married. But due to some property dispute, the ties between the families went bad. Later, the mother of the girl told Santosh's mother that he had impregnated her daughter, and wanted Santosh to marry her.

When Santosh denied the false accusations against him, the girl's family filed a rape case against him. The police arrested Santosh. He was released on bail in 2016.

When the baby was born, it was proved by the DNA test that Santosh is not her father. The trial lasted for about seven years. A Mahila court discharged him in 2016.

Following which, Santosh filed for compensation of Rs 30 lakh from the girl and her family. However, the court awarded half of the amount he demanded, that is, Rs 15 lakh payable by the girl and her parents.
