UTTAR PRADESH: Various services within the country have been shut down due to coronavirus scare within the country. Daily wage labourers will be hit quite severely as work across the country is suspended on various fronts.
To ease the situation for them, Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh Yogi Adityanath has announced that the state government will give daily wage labourers and construction workers Rs 1,000 per day to 15 lakh daily wage labourers and 20.37 lakh construction workers so that they can meet their needs.
So far 23 people have been infected in UP from coronavirus.
Four persons have succumbed to the dreaded virus so far — one each in Maharashtra, Delhi, Karnataka, and Punjab. Government of India has informed that no scheduled international commercial passenger aircraft shall be allowed to land in India from March 22, 2020 for one week.
Additionally, State Governments shall issue appropriate directions so that all citizens above 65 (other than for medical assistance) except for public representatives/govt. servants/medical professionals are advised to remain at home, according to a press release.
Railways and civil aviation shall suspend all concessional travel except for students, patients and divyang category.
States are being requested to enforce work for home for Private Sector employees except those working in emergency/essential service
To reduce crowding, all Group B and C Central Government employees will be asked to attend offices on alternate week and staggered timings for all employees.
All existing visas, except diplomatic, official, UN/International Organizations, employment, project visas, stand suspended till 15th April 2020. This will come into effect from 1200 GMT on 13th March 2020 at the port of departure, informed the Ministry of Health.
Henk Bekedam, the World Health Organization’s (WHO) India representative, hailed Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘Janata curfew’ initiative which will come into effect for a day on Sunday.
“We welcome Prime Minister’s call for a Janata curfew and adopting social distancing. Effective implementation of the strategy will go a long way in controlling the spread of the virus,” Bekedam said in a statement released by the WHO after Modi’s address to the nation on Thursday evening.A
“Along with hand-hygiene, coughing and sneezing in one’s sleeves prevents transmission. These measures, together Awith social distancing can be effective in containing transmission. Even as we maintain social distancing, it is equally vital to stand together in solidarity to overcome this challenge,” Bekedam added.
