On Friday, India recorded its sharpest 24-hour spike of coronavirus cases as the nationwide tally rose to 1,18,447 with the death toll at 3,583.
The Indian Health Ministry said that 6,088 cases and 148 deaths were reported in the last 24 hours. According to the Ministry, as many as 48,534 people have recovered from the disease and the rate of recovery sits at 40.97.
It needs mention here that a day prior on Thursday, India had reported 5,609 cases of the virus.
Seven states in India – Maharashtra (41,642), Tamil Nadu (13,967), Gujarat (12,905), Delhi (11,659), Rajasthan (6,227), Madhya Pradesh (5,981) and Uttar Pradesh (5,515) – have reported the lion's share of cases.
The cases have also risen considerably in the Northeast Indian states amid the return citizens who were stuck elsewhere. Assam has leaped ahead of Tripura in the tally as the state so far has reported 212 positive cases, with Tripura not too far behind with 173 cases of the virus.
International Impact:
Worldometers reports that the coronavirus has infected over 5 million (or 50 lakh people) across the world. 334,675 people have died from complications, while 2,082717 people have made recoveries. The number of currently infected (or 'active) cases now sits at 2,780,384.
The United States continued to lead the international number of cases with 1,620,902 people carrying the infection so far, of whom 96,354 people have died. Russia has also surged ahead and has now reported 317,554 cases.
