Coronavirus Shaped Helmets Worn by Hyderabad Police to Raise Awareness

During the Covid-19-imposed lockdown in Hyderabad, police are seen wearing coronavirus-shaped helmets while patrolling the streets.

According to the police, the move is intended to raise awareness of the deadly virus and the importance of taking precautions against it.

Every day, approximately 7,000 to 8,000 cases are booked against violators of the lockdown imposed earlier this month.

Anjani Kumar, Commissioner of the Hyderabad City Police, stated on Friday that the police inspected the implementation of the lockdown in Mahedipatnam's West Zone at the market check point, and that as part of the inspection, police officers wore helmets depicting the virus.

"The benefits of the lockdown can only be achieved with the cooperation of the people," Mr Kumar said, adding that 99 percent of the city's population was adhering to the lockdown guidelines.

He added, "The lockdown is being implemented on strong grounds for the past 15 days and police are on 24x7 duty at 180 checkposts across the city. On a daily basis, nearly about 7,000 to 8,000 violation cases are being registered against the violators. About 6,000 to 7,000 vehicles are being seized."

He also urged people to cooperate with police and adhere to all lockdown regulations.

In response to the rising number of coronavirus cases, a statewide lockdown was declared on May 12 with relaxations from 6 a.m. to 10 a.m. It will remain in place until May 30.

On Saturday, the state health department reported that 3,527 new COVID-19 cases had been registered in the previous 24 hours, bringing the active caseload in Telangana to 37,793. 

With 1.73 lakh new Covid cases recorded in the last 24 hours, India's COVID-19 graph continued to exhibit a downward trend, the lowest daily spike in 45 days. With 4.14 lakh infections per day earlier this month, the country set a new world record. This is the second day in a row that there have been fewer than 2 lakh cases filed. For the past five days, the positivity rate has been below 10%.
