GUWAHATI: The sudden rise in the number of Covid-19 cases in different parts of the world has put the Indian medical system on full alert. As a part of the preparedness program for another outbreak, mock drills were conducted in multiple hospitals in the country on December 27.
In the last few days, the number of Covid-19 cases has surged in several countries including China, Japan, Brazil and South Korea. In order to check the preparedness of the hospitals and other medical facilities to handle another outbreak in the country, a mock drill was conducted. It was aimed at the assessment of all resources including manpower and infrastructure across India.
"Today mock drills are conducted across covid hospitals in the country to make sure people get proper treatment. To make sure there isn't a Covid surge in the country, PM Modi has asked us to be careful. Govt is also preparing if at all covid cases increase." mentioned the Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya. Earlier Mansukh Mandaviya said that all state health ministers will take part at their level in the mock drill to be conducted throughout the country at all COVID-19 hospitals as part of the precautionary measures. The minister visited the Safdarjung Hospital in New Delhi to take stock of the situation.
The mock drill for covid was also organised on the premises of the Gauhati Medical College Hospital to take stock of the resources and capabilities of the institution. It was conducted by Kamrup Metro District Administration along with the Health department of the state.
According to reports, GMCH has implemented all efforts to provide emergency treatment to Covid-19 patients. The Deputy Commissioner is monitoring the situation for better management of Covid 19.
The GMCH has set up 156 special Covid-19 beds and has enough medical equipment and oxygen in the oxygen plant set up in the premises to deal with any situation. Arrangements have been made to make everything readily available within 24 hours. Although there is no rapid testing system in the state, regular testing is going on at the hospital as well as the airport.
