COVID Update: India Reports 3.23 Lakh Fresh COVID-19 Cases and 2,771 Deaths

India on Monday reported over 3.23 fresh cases of COVID-19 and 2,771 COVID-induced fatalities marking it the 6th consecutive day that over three lakh cases have been recorded.

New Delhi- India on Monday reported 3.23 lakh fresh COVID-19 cases taking the total caseload of the country to over 1.76 crores. 2,771 COVID-induced deaths have been reported in the last 24 hours with the total death toll now amounting to over 1.97 lakhs. There are over 28.74 lakh active cases of the novel coronavirus in the country. However, India finally saw a downward spiral in the number of COVID-19 cases with 8.4% fewer cases than the previous day. It is the sixth consecutive day that over 3 lakh cases have been reported in the country. 

Even as Mumbai recorded a significant drop in the cases of the novel coronavirus, over 48,700 cases have been reported from the state of Maharashtra which still continues to be the worst COVID-19 affected state in the country. The states of Kerala, Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, and Delhi happens to be the most COVID-19 stricken after Maharashtra. 

On Monday, Delhi reported 20,201 new cases of the novel coronavirus. The national capital also witnessed the highest single-day spike in the cases of COVID-induced fatalities with 380 cases. About 57,690 tests were conducted in Delhi on Monday, which is usually half of what it conducts in a day hence the dip in the cases can be attributed to this. 

Meanwhile, in Assam, 3,137 more people tested positive for the novel coronavirus taking the total tally of the caseload in the state to over 2.4 lakh on Monday. Kamrup Metro reported a staggering 1,153 cases while Dibrugarh reported 268 cases, Kamrup Rural reported 255 cases and Darrang reported 127. 15 new cases of COVID-induced fatalities have been reported taking the total death toll to 1,215. 8 deaths were reported from Kamrup Metro, 3 from Dibrugarh, 2 from Barpeta, and 1 from Goalpara. The positivity rate is 4.29% while the recovery rate is 91.55%. 

The Health Minister of Assam Himanta Biswa Sarma claimed that the state has a surplus of medical oxygen. 

Prime Minister Narendra Modi over a telephonic exchange with US President Joe Biden got his assurance that the US will be sending the raw materials needed to ramp up the production of the COVAXIN to India. The EU, Germany, France, Israel, and many other countries have pledged to help India in its fight against this deadly infectious disease. 

India received its first shipment of 100 ventilators and 95 oxygen concentrators from the UK early in the morning today, as per reports from the foreign ministry.
