CPI (M) Leader Sitaram Yechury's Son Passes Away at 34 Due to COVID-19

New Delhi- The Communist Party of India (Marxist) national general secretary Sitaram Yechury's elder son passes away after succumbing to the novel coronavirus infection. 

Ashish Yechury, who would have turned 35 on the 9th of June, passed away on Thursday morning. 

The people close to his family said that he was recovering well at Gurgaon's Medanta Hospital, but suddenly succumbed to the COVID infection at 5:30 AM in the morning. He had been battling with this deadly infectious disease for two weeks until he finally succumbed today in the morning. 

Ashish Yechury who passed out from the Asian College of Journalism, Chennai was pursuing his career in journalism and worked for several publications including the Times of India in Delhi, and later moved to Pune. 

People who worked with him remember him as a well-mannered and warm professional, who was well-read and very knowledgeable. 

The CPI (M) politburo offered their deepest condolences by offering a statement saying, "We are deeply sorry to announce the passing away this morning (22 April) of Ashish Yechury, son of Sitaram Yechury and Indrani Mazumdar. He died of Covid related complications. He was 35 years old. The Polit Bureau conveys its deepest condolences to Sitaram and Indrani, his wife Swati, his sister Akhila and all other members of the bereaved family." 

Meanwhile, prominent political leaders from India offered their deepest condolences on the social media platform like Congress leader Shahi Tharoor, DMK leader MK Stalin and TMC MP Derek O'Brien. 

"There is no greater loss for a parent to endure. May you find the strength to bear the inexpressible grief of your loss. My heart goes out to you at this painful time," said Shashi Tharoor. 

Even the Health and Education minister of Assam took to Twitter to offer his condolences. 

India, as of Wednesday, recorded the highest ever single-day spike in the cases of the novel coronavirus with an astonishing 3.14 Lakhs, the highest the world has ever witnessed in a single day. The total tally of active caseloads in the country presently is 22.84 lakhs taking the total number of cases registered in this country so far to 1.59 crores. Meanwhile, India reported 2,104 COVID-induced fatalities taking the total tally of fatalities to 1.84 lakhs. Read more
