New Delhi: More than 100 flights were delayed on Monday following the heavy rains accompanied by thunderstorms in the national capital.

The heavy showers also affected the normal life apart from hindering the regular flights at Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGI).

According to reports, many passengers were kept in airport buses while several flights were diverted.

Nearly, 100 flights were delayed till around 11 am due to bad weather and related reasons and two flights have been cancelled while 19 flights were diverted to Jaipur and other airports.

Taking to the micro-blogging site Twitter, Delhi airport said that flights have been affected due to bad weather and urged passengers to get in touch with the respective airlines for updates regarding their flights.

''Due to bad weather, flight operations at @DelhiAirport are affected. Passengers are requested to get in touch with the airline concerned for updated flight information,'' it added.

Reportedly, hundreds of passengers traveling in the morning flights have been affected as flights taking off from Delhi are being rescheduled.

Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for the national capital, predicting light rains accompanied by squalls at the speed of 50-60 kmph under the influence of a western disturbance.
