Delhi Police books Youtuber Gaurav Wasan for allegedly cheating Baba ka Dhaba fame Kanta Prasad

New Delhi: The Delhi Police has booked Youtuber Gaurav Wasan on charges of cheating after a preliminary investigation into the allegation of misappropriation of funds.

DCP South Atul Thakur said Wasan is under a cognisable offence FIR U/S 420 IPC at Malviya Nagar Police Station and further investigation has been initiated.

Kanta Prasad is a resident of Malviya Nagar, he filed a complaint against Wasan on 31st October for cheating and fraud. Prasad alleged that the Youtuber approached him to shoot a video to help and promote his business.

Gaurav Wasan had posted the video in his account 'Swad Official' and requested the public to financially help the old couple by donating money to the owner. In the video, Prasad can be seen tearfully recounting his financial crisis in his business due to the lockdown. The video garnered a lot of attention and was shared extensively.

The video went viral, however, as per Prasad's complaint, Wasan is accused of sharing only his and his family member's bank details and contact number for donation via different modes of payment i.e. bank account/wallets without providing any information to the owners. He is alleged to have collected a huge amount of donation whereby, misappropriated the funds.

The owner of the eatery claimed that Wasan had provided him with a cheque of 2.33 lakh on 26th October after people began to troll him for not handing over the donation to owner Prasad.

Wasan has denied all allegations against him made by the owner of Baba Ka Dhaba.
