NEW DELHI: At Qutub Vihar near Chhawla in South West Delhi, a 34-year-old Delhi police head constable was stabbed twice by an attacker who was later apprehended following a gunfight with police officers, according to police. The attacker was identified as Sunny Shooter, a convicted felon.

Head Constable Rinku and Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Sunil of the Chhawla Police Station were on beat patrol on Sunday night when they received a call about an altercation and assault that was happening in the neighbourhood at 8.30 p.m., according to Deputy Commissioner of Police (Dwarka) Harsha Vardhan Mandava.

When they arrived, they saw some boys attacking an auto-rickshaw driver. When the head constable went after Sunny, Sunny allegedly stabbed Rinku before running away, according to the police. Our police officers went for the alleged guys. One of them was caught by head constable Rinku who was a notorious crook. The DCP claimed Sunny stabbed Rinku twice before running away.

The injured head constable was taken to a hospital where he is receiving treatment and is stated to be in stable condition, according to the DCP. Teams were organized to find Sunny and the other criminals during the incident, according to the police.

The DCP stated that after gathering information on the suspects from informants and through sophisticated surveillance, police discovered that Sunny was hiding with his companions in a home on Bhai-Bhai Road in Qutub Vihar.

They conducted a raid, and nearly six hours later, at around 2.30 am on Monday, Sunny was taken into custody following a gunfight with the police squad, according to officials with knowledge of the situation. They said that Sunny was shot twice before giving himself up.

In addition to Sunny, two other individuals who claimed to be minors were also apprehended, according to the police. Senior police personnel who are aware of the two instances indicated that the police are confirming their age.
