NEW DELHI: So far 11 bodies have been recovered from drains of northeast Delhi, claim reports.
It is suspected that the ones whose bodies have been recovered from the drain probably lost their lives during the violence in Delhi.
The first body fished out of drain was that of Ankit Sharma. Ankit who used to work for the Intelligence Bureau was killed by rioters and his body was recovered from a drain near his house. An FIR had been filed against AAP councillor Tahir Hussain after a complaint was filed by father of Ankit Sharma.
According to latest media reports, 47 people have died so far in violence in Delhi.
Some stories of deaths have gathered more attention than others.
In a widely circulated video from Delhi violence, wounded men lying on the ground are being prodded by cops to sing National Anthem by the police. One of the men 23-year-old Faizan has died. He succumbed to his injuries at Delhi’s Guru Teg Bahadur (GTB) Hospital.
Sporadic incidents of stone-pelting between anti and pro-CAA groups at Maujpur in east Delhi broke a relative lull in tension over the contentious Citizenship Amendment Act. Slowly the incidents took the shape of riots. The police fired teargas shells. The tension erupted after a pro-CAA rally in the area was stoned by a group of anti-CAA protesters. Following stone-pelting by both groups, the police stepped in to disperse the two groups.
The Directorate of Education on Saturday declared that the schools in northeast Delhi will remain closed till March 7. This comes in the wake of the large-scale violence in northeast Delhi earlier this week. The Delhi government has demanded the suspension of the board examinations in the schools in these areas. In addition to the 10th and 12th board exams, the school examinations up to class 11 were also postponed.
