Guwahati: Moments after being acquitted by a special CBI court, one of the 32 accused in the Babri Masjid demolition case boasted during an interview to a TV news channel that he was one of the people who demolished the mosque on December 6, 1992.

Jai Bhagwan Goyal, a former North Indian Chief of the Shiv Sena said that the objective "was always to demolish Babri." He told the channel that an initial attempt was foiled in 1990 by then Uttar Pradesh chief minister Mulayam Singh Yadav who ordered the firing of bullets. "But our commitment was unflinching and we succeeded in 1992," Goyal said.

The former Shiv Sena said that he was even prepared for the death penalty. Terming the demolishing of Babri as an "act of pride" "Goyal said that he was acquitted because of the blessings of Lord Ram.

Now that the Supreme Court has ordered the construction of a Ram Temple, Goyal's next assignment would be demolishing mosques in Mathura and Kashi, he said.

There is a belief among some Hindu conservatives and right-wing organizations that the Idgah mosque in Mathura was constructed by Mughal emperor Aurangzeb after demolishing the temple at Lord Krishna's birthplace.

Echoing similar sentiments, Vinay Katiyar, a former BJP MP, has said that the launching of a kar seva movement in Mathura would be taken only after consulting the saints.

It needs mention here that BJP MP Pragya Singh Thakur (another accused who has been acquitted in the Babri Masjid demolition case) also claimed her hand in the demolition of the mosque right in front of cameras.

"I had demolished the structure. I will go there and help in the construction of the Ram temple, nobody can stop us from doing that," Thakur had declared.
