NEW DELHI: Gujarat state Chief Minister Vijay Rupani said that the US President Donald Trump will visit Sabarmati Riverfront in Gujarat during his India trip in February.
"In entire Asia, the Sabarmati river has begun to be the cleanest river which was confirmed by PM Narendra Modi. Eminent leaders like Israel and Japan prime ministers also paid a visit to the riverfront and got astonished to see it," Rupani said this while addressing an election rally in North Delhi's Shastri Nagar on Wednesday.
Rupani said, "US President Trump will too come to India in Feb and he will also visit the riverfront". However, he did not mention the dates.
Earlier this month, a government source said Indian and US officials were trying to finalize the dates for Trump's visit to India.
Trump's two-day visit to India could happen from February 24-26.
India had invited Trump to be the Chief Guest at the Republic Day parade last year, but the US president could not make it due to scheduling problems.
Last year in September, Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the ‘Howdy Modi’ mega diaspora event in Houston, which was also attended by US President Donald Trump,
Trump had said, “I have a very good relationship with Prime Minister Modi.” But he added that he has, “by the way, great relationship with Pakistan and with India.”
Nikki Haley, the former US Ambassador to the UN hailed ‘HowdyModi’, saying the Houston event where Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Donald Trump shared the stage contributed to the strengthening of ties between New Delhi and Washington.
Haley, who was the second Indian-American to serve as a Governor in the US, had tweeted, “The US and India have a great partnership and it has only strengthened with the friendship of DonaldTrump and Narendra Modi.” She retweeted Trump’s tweet that said: “The USA Loves India!” in response to the Indian Prime Minister’s Office ‘Howdy Modi’ video link."
