NEW DELHI : A new development has been made in the world of sports as Indian government has decided to recognise Esports in the country. Esports has been finally included in multi-sports event by Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports under the direction of President of India, Droupadi Murmu.

After a series of efforts by the virtual sports organisations, the authorities have finally decided to accelerate the digital economy in India. The electronic sports industry have been fighting for this position since a really long time.

They claim that athletes utilise their mental and physical strength in video games virtually to compete in an electronic environment. The Director of Esports Federation of India and Vice President of the Asian Esports Federation, Lokesh Suji stated that, the organisation has put in a lot of effort to demonstrate the difference between igaming and Esports.

As the new year is approaching, Esports has gained a major boost in the sports world. Suji is of the view that, the day is not that far when electronic sports will be given the same place as cricket, football etc with crazy fan base and coverage.

India has competed for positions during the inaugural of Esports Asian games, which implies that the misinterpretation related to the esports is gradually diminishing. 2022 was a good year for Indian esports and will only grow bigger in 2023, stated Suji.

Is is worth mentioning that, International Olympic Association (IOC), has also extended its hand in making Esport more popular, as on June 2023, Singapore will host the inaugural of Olympic Esports Week.

This is indeed a huge step in developing the virtual sports. It is to be noted that millions of dollars are invested every year in this industry. A report has been submitted by the Animation, Visual Effects, Gaming and Comics Promotion Task Force (AVGC), marking the challenges and opportunities so Government can take initiative to promote and take care of the industry.
