Ex-Haryana CM Om Prakash Chautala Gets 4 Years' Imprisonment In DA Case

New Delhi: A Delhi Court on Friday awarded for years' imprisonment ex-Haryana chief minister Om Prakash Chautala in relation to a disproportionate case.

The court also slapped a fine of Rs 50 lakh and also ordered to confiscate his properties.

On May 21, the court convicted Chautala and mentioned that he failed to account for such disproportionality by proving his source of income or means by which he acquired assets between 1993 and 2006.

The CBI had filed the case in 2005 and on March 26, 2010, a charge sheet was filed accusing him of amassing assets disproportionate to his legitimate income between 1993 and 2006.

The assets were seized by the CBI on the basis of his disproportionate businesses dated from July 24 1999 till March 5, 2005.

The FIR mentions 43 immovable properties in total, from cash to jewellery, properties related to family names, and others. Although an investigation was also carried down for digging the accused CM's linked properties and contacts. And as a result, it was found that CM Om Prakash Chautala had enormous fake and unjustified properties to his name.

It is to be noted that Om Prakash Chautala remained the chief minister of Haryana from 24th July 1999 till 5th March 2005, subsequently securing the post of his office and representing the Indian National Lok Dal.

He was released from Tihar jail in 2021 where he served 10 years in prison. He along with 53 others was also taken into custody in June 2008 in a case related to the appointment of 3206 junior basic teachers of Haryana in the year 1999-2000.
