Facing Chinese threat, India deploys Akash missiles at Eastern Ladakh

Guwahati: Amid increasing Chinese air activity along the Line of Actual Control (LAC), India has deployed its advanced very quick-reaction surface-to-air missile defence systems, Akash, in the Eastern Ladakh sector.

Yesterday, the Chinese fighter aircraft and helicopter activities had increased along the LAC, raising the alarm on the Indian side. Government sources said that the defence systems of both the Army and the Air Force have been deployed in the area as a counter-measure against the Chinese fighter jets and choppers operated by the neighbouring country's People's Liberation Army (PLA).

Amid rising instances of border skirmishes among the two nations, the Chinese side has deployed Sukhoi-30 and its Xian H-6 strategic bombers to the rear locations which have been picked up by the Indian radars. However, sources said that the bombers are maintaining a 10 km plus distance from the boundary.

Union Defense Minister Rajnath Singh during a recent visit to Moscow, Russia, had assured that all the military deals between the two countries would be complete despite the prevailing pandemic situation. India will be purchasing Russian S-400 missile defence systems from Russia shortly, Singh announced.

While China has deployed PLAAF choppers that have been flying very close to the Indian LAC in all the troubled sectors including the Daulat Beg Oldie sector, Galwan valley near Patrolling Point 14, Patrolling Point 15, Patrolling Point 17 and Hot Springs area along with the Pangong Tso and Finger area, India has deployed its frontline assets like Su-30MKIs, Apache attack helicopters and Boeing CH-47 Chinook along the LAC.
