NEW DELHI: After two women died during an anti-encroachment raid in a village in the Kanpur Dehat district, the police have filed an FIR against over 24 individuals, including Deputy Collector Maitha, Tehsildar, Kanungo, Lekhpal, and SHO.
A mother and daughter were set ablaze on Monday during an anti-encroachment campaign in a village in Uttar Pradesh's Kanpur Dehat district. The family members of the deceased disagreed with the police's assertion that they had set themselves on fire. The women were allegedly killed after the family's hut was set on fire by police who were on the property for the demolition effort.
The incident, according to the police, happened in UP's Madauli village where the police, district administration, and revenue officials went to clear encroachments from "gramme samaj," or government property. The people asserted that sufficient notice was not given to them.
"While individuals were still inside, they set the fire. We barely managed to get away. Our temple was broken. No one took action, not even the DM (District Magistrate). Shivam Dixit said, "Everyone fled, but no one could save my mother. Parmila Devi, 45, and her daughter Neha have been identified as the deceased (20 years old).
According to what we've learned, a mother and her daughter barricaded themselves inside the hut and lit it ablaze, which led to their deaths. We've arrived at the location. Each and every official who is involved is present. Superintendent of Police (SP) BBGTS Murthy stated, "We will look into it, and if there is any misconduct, we won't spare the guilty."
"Videos are taken with every anti-encroachment drive. We have requested the footage and will look into it, Murthy continued. The act caused a huge outcry in the neighbourhood as locals began throwing bricks at the police, who then fled the scene.
For the alleged murder, the villagers are asking for an FIR to be filed against Sub-Divisional Magistrate (Maitha) Gyaneshwar Prasad, Lekhpal Singh, and others.
In order to calm the gathering, Divisional Commissioner Raj Shekhar and Additional Director General of Police (Kanpur zone) Alok Singh went to the area. The highest-ranking officials have declared that they will punish those found guilty.
The surviving family members of the dead have requested compensation from the Yogi government and accused the police of this tragedy. A payout of Rs 5 crores, two or more government positions for the family, pensions for the dependents, and housing for the deceased's two sons are among the demands made by the family. In addition, the family wants a thorough investigation into the incident and an FIR against all the accused.
