Noida: The protesting farmers vacated the Noida-Delhi border at Chilla on Sunday. The move was taken by the protesting farmers following a late-night meeting with Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and Agriculture and Farmer Welfare Minister Narendra Singh Tomar.

The road was blocked for around two weeks since December 1. The farmers occupied the spot for their sit-in protest against the Centre's farm laws. After the spot was vacated, normal traffic resumed in the Noida-Delhi via Chilla border. The officials said that the traffic movement via Kalindi Kunj and DND routes were also normal.

However, the protest was carried on by a few Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU) members, which included BKU chief Thakur Bhanu Pratap Singh. The carriageway was vacated by the farmers in the midnight hours on Saturday following a meeting with Rajnath Singh and Narendra Singh Tomar.

A senior IT cell member of BKU, Satish Tomar said that the Defence Minister, Rajnath Singh heard the demands of the farmers and agreed to resolve the issues. The farmers were convinced to vacate the road. However, the protest of the farmers is not yet over.

The protesting farmers performed Havan at the Chilla border on Sunday. They said they would clear everything by Sunday evening.

Another set of farmers are staging a protest near the Chilla border, at the Dalit Prerna Sthal in Noida. Some of the protestors of that group tonsured their heads and had gone for semi-naked during the protest. All of these protestors have gathered to proceed towards Delhi, to join the bigger group of farmers.

Thousands of farmers have been peacefully protesting against the Farmers' Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Act, 2020, the Farmers (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement on Price Assurance and Farm Services Act, 2020 and the Essential Commodities (Amendment) Act, 2020.

They have asked the Centre to repeal these laws.
