Delhi: Farmers' agitation against the Centre's three farm laws
entered day 14 on Wednesday in the midst of a sign that the deadlock between
the government and farm unions would not end anytime soon.
The protesting farmers continues to sit on the
outskirts of Delhi blocking various highways leading to the national capital.
The sixth round of talks between the Center and peasant leaders will be held on Wednesday at 5 pm and the government is now planning to
give a written proposal to the farmers on other issues including the Agricultural
Produce Market Committee (APMC) Act as the farmers were wanting a direct
'yes or no' answer from the Union Home Minister Amit Shah regarding the various
points raised by them in the meeting held on Tuesday night between Home
Minister and farmer leaders who were protesting against Farmer's Bill passed by
parliament recently.
The meeting was called by the Home Minister as an effort to end the massive protest that has been going on for the last 12 days.
Five-member delegation of Opposition including Congress MP Rahul Gandhi, NCP chief Sharad Pawar, CPM leader Sitaram Yechury, CPI general secretary D Raja and a representative from DMK are supposed to meet President Ram Nath Kovind today evening at 5 PM to discuss the new farm laws. However, because of the Covid 19 protocol, only five leaders have been allowed to meet the President.
All the parties of the Opposition delegation have supported Tuesday's Bharat Bandh on the issue of agricultural laws.
The two sides have held five rounds of talks so till date including three last week, on December 1, 3, and 5.
