New
Delhi: From jan 1 next year FASTag will be mandatory for every vehicle
flying on Indian road. This was made mandatory as per a Government's statement.
This was decided by the Government to make travel
more convenience because as now India have many toll gates and every time you
pass the toll gate you have to wait at the toll plazas to pay the fee which takes time and make you wait but if you
have FASTag on your car's windscreen the fee amount will be deducted automatically and will ensure that the payment of fees is done
so you could pass smoothly through the toll plazas. There would be no waiting
time at the Plazas and would save fuel as well.
FASTag is a Radio Frequency Identification
Technology (RFID) introduced by the Government of India in October 2017 by the
Ministry of Road Transport and Highway. The action was taken with due respect
for many inconveniences both for individual drivers and for the country at
large.
As per the Central Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989,
since December 1, 2017, FASTag has been made mandatory for the registration of
new four-wheelers and is supplied by the vehicle manufacturers or their
dealers.
It has been further mandated that the renewal of
fitness certificate will be done only after the fitment of FASTag for the
transport vehicles, wherein the details of FASTag ID shall be captured.
Further, the fitment of FASTag for National Permit Vehicles has been mandated
since 1st Oct 2019.
The steps for ensuring the availability of FASTag
at multiple channels are being made through physical locations and also using
online mechanism so that people can get them connected to their vehicles over
the next two months at their convenience.
