KOLKATA: On Wednesday evening, a fire broke out within Kolkata's Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport. Three fire engines were dispatched to the scene to put out the fire. At 9:10 p.m., a fire broke out in the departure lounge's D Portal section. The D gateway is where passengers pick up their boarding cards. A section of the security checkpoint was also set ablaze.
The airport authority in a statement said that “I've spoken with the airport director, and everything is under control. The area has been cleared of all passengers and crew. Everyone is safe, and no injuries have been recorded. At 22:25 hours, the check-in process was resumed. The cause of the fire will be determined as soon as possible.”
Taking on twitter, Union Minister for Civil Aviation & Steel, Jyotiraditya M. Scindia said ,” An unfortunate but minor fire broke out at the Kolkata airport near a check-in counter.
In touch with the airport director - the situation is under control. All passengers & staff have been evacuated from the area. Fortunately, everyone is safe & no injuries have been reported. The check-in process resumed at 22:25 hrs. The cause of the fire will be ascertained at the earliest.”
According to airport officials, the fire started at 9:12 p.m. and was completely doused by 9:40 p.m. According to authorities, all passengers were safely evacuated, and the check-in procedure was halted owing to the presence of smoke in the check-in area.
The Airports Authority of India (AAI) launched an investigation into the incident a day after a fire broke out within Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International (Kolkata) Airport.
According to an AAI spokeswoman, the specific cause of the fire would be revealed following an investigation, and an investigation into the incident has already begun.
