Fist Fights In Bengal Assembly Over Birbhum Killings, Speaker Suspends 5 BJP MLAs

KOLKATA: In a shocking incident in West Bengal Assembly, the MLAs from Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Trinamool Congress got engaged in a big brawl and ended up getting injured.

On Monday 28 March, a scuffle suddenly broke out between ruling TMC (Trinamool Congress) and the main opposition BJP in the West Bengal Legislative Assembly.

The fight emerged between the MLAs after the demand by Opposition that the state Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee provides an official statement on the recent Birbhum violence where families were burnt to death.

BJP leader and the party's IT cell chief Amit Malviya took to Twitter to share a clip of the fistfight occurring between the MLAs during a session in the Bengal Assembly.

In the video uploaded by Amlviya, a group of MLAs was seen pushing each other and shouting and the security personnel was unable to control the situation.

The assembly speaker in taking action over such behaviour inside the Assembly floor suspended 5 members of Parliaments from BJP.

The five BJP MLAs suspended are Shankar Ghosh, opposition leader Suvendhu Adhikary, Dipak Barman, Manoj Tigga, and Narahari Mahato.

According to reports TMC MLA from Chinsura in Hooghly district Asit Majumdar's nose was broken in between the clash in the house and he was soon taken to the SSKM Hospital in Kolkata with a bleeding nose.

Reportedly, the clothes of BJP MLA and party's chief whip Manoj Tigga were also torn following the scuffle on Monday.

The opposition claims that at least eight BJP MLAs are left with injuries after the ruling TMC members and security officers attacked them.

Leader of Oppositions Suvendu Adhikari who is will not be able to the assembly until the next session for getting suspended lashes out at TMC chief and state's CM Mamata Banerjee.

He said that he would approach the court if the required action is not taken against TMC leaders who are the reason for the scuffle in Assembly on Monday.
