BENGALURU: A terror plot was busted and a potential blast in Bengaluru city of Karnataka was averted when the Central Crime Branch (CCB) made a major breakthrough by apprehending five suspected terrorists on Wednesday.

Explosive substances and other equipment were also seized from the suspects, leading the authorities to believe that a major terror plot was in the making and a potential explosion was averted in time.

The suspected terrorists were identified as Sayed Suhel, Umar, Janid, Mudasir, and Jahid. The five terror suspects hail from different areas of the capital city. They were allegedly involved in a 2017 murder case and were lodged in jail, where the seeds of the plot were sown.

It was during their time spent at Parappana Agrahara Central jail that they are suspected to have made connections with other incarcerated individuals that were involved in terrorist activities.

“All five identified as Sayed Suhel, Umar, Janid, Mudasir, and Jahid, were accused in a 2017 murder case and were in Parappana Agrahara Central jail where they came in contact with terrorists,” the CCB officials said.

Acting on credible information, the CCB team launched an operation and managed to successfully locate and arrest the suspects. Along with the arrest of the terror suspects, the officials also seized arms, ammunition, communication equipment and explosive devices from their possession.

The CCB believed that the group had been engaged in a meticulous plot to cause a blast within the city limits.

Central Crime Branch (CCB) of Karnataka recovered 4 walkie-talkies, 7 country-made pistols, 42 live bullets, 2 daggers, 2 satellite phones and 4 grenades from the 5 suspected terrorists arrested by them in the planned operation.

The authorities have launched an investigation into the matter and are delving deeper into the plot in an attempt to discover any further potential threats or connections the suspects may have developed.

The timely intervention and proactive efforts of the Central Crime Branch are believed to have helped avert any potential terrorist activity being planned by these individuals, and the authorities are fully committed to ensuring the safety and security of the people in the region.
