BENGALURU: In a recent incident, a passenger named Swapnil Holey was apprehended for allegedly attempting to open the emergency exit door of an Indigo flight bound for Bengaluru from Nagpur. The incident took place on the evening of September 30.

Holey had boarded Indigo flight 6E 6803 at approximately 10 pm on that fateful night. His seat was located next to the aircraft's emergency exit door. It was during the pre-takeoff briefing by the airline's crew that Holey reportedly made his ill-advised move, trying to open the emergency exit door while the plane was still on the ground.

The flight safely landed at the Kempegowda International Airport in Bengaluru at 11:55 pm. Upon landing, Indigo airline staff promptly escorted Holey to the local police station. A senior police officer confirmed the incident and Holey's subsequent detention.

Interestingly, Holey had another flight scheduled for the following day, October 1, which was bound for Bangkok, Thailand. This information came to light during the investigation.

Based on a formal complaint lodged by the airline staff regarding the incident, authorities registered an FIR against Holey under section 336 of the Indian Penal Code. This section pertains to actions that endanger the life or personal safety of others. Consequently, the accused passenger was taken into custody.

However, it's worth noting that Holey was later released on bail, though the investigation into the incident remains ongoing. The reasons behind Holey's alleged attempt to open the emergency exit door are still unclear, and authorities continue to probe the matter to ascertain the motives behind his actions and whether there were any underlying issues that prompted this behavior.

This incident serves as a reminder of the importance of adhering to in-flight safety protocols and the swift response of airline staff and law enforcement in ensuring the safety and security of passengers and crew members during air travel.
