Google Removes 9 Mobile Apps from the Play Store, Stole Users' Facebook Login Details

NEW DELHI: Google has removed nine applications with 5.8 million downloads from the Play Store, which were stealing users' Facebook login details and passwords. The reports said that Google has prohibited the developers of all the nine applications from the store, where they will not be permitted to submit new applications.

The malware applications offered useful administrations such as - photo editing and framing, exercise and training, horoscopes, and expulsion of undesirable documents from Android gadgets. These malevolent applications got everything they might want around users' Facebook accreditations by offering a choice to disable in-application advertisements if they signed in from their Facebook accounts.

A post published by security firm Dr. Web stated that users who picked the option saw a Facebook login structure that required them to fill in their usernames and passwords. The security firm additionally analysed the malicious programs to track down that the applications got settings for stealing logins and passwords of Facebook accounts.

It is to be mentioned that the applications tricked users by stacking into the Facebook sign-in page to steal their login details and to give them to the application. The report noted that the malware would likewise steal cookies from the authorisation meeting. For each situation, Facebook was targeted, yet the developers might enjoy taken benefit of other genuine Internet providers by using fake logins on a phishing webpage.

However, these Android applications included Rubbish Cleaner, Inwell Fitness, Horoscope Daily which almost had 1 lakh downloads each, App Lock Keep, Lockit Master with 50,000 downloads each. Horoscope Pi with 1000 downloads and App Lock Manager with 10 downloads.

A Google spokesman said that the tech giant has also banned the designers and creators of every one of the nine applications from the store, which means they won't be permitted to submit new applications. Notwithstanding, as per the report, this is a little obstacle for defaulters as a new developer account under an alternate name requires a one-time expense of $25.

The improvement comes only days after Joker virus newly designated eight new Android applications that stole users' information, including SMS, contact list, device info, gadget data, OTPs, and much more. The eight applications that were contaminated by the Joker virus are Auxiliary Message, Fast magic SMS, Free CamScanner, Super Message, Element Scanner, Go messages, travel wallpapers, and Super SMS. It is said that the tainted applications were removed by Google from the play store after a few downloads from users.
