Gujarat: Two Nagaland Youths Assaulted for Selling Northeastern Foods in Ahmedabad

AHMEDABAD: On June 6, a group of people was accused of beating two men from Nagaland wuth baseball bats, who were selling non-vegetarian cuisine in the Chanakyapuri neighbourhood of Ahemdabad.

According to reports, two people from Nagaland were serving non-vegetarian north-eastern cuisine when the miscreants forcibly entered a restaurant called "One Stop North-East."

Reacting to the incident Nagaland minister Temjen Imna Along wrote on twitter, “I am deeply pained to hear about the recent hate crime against two men from Nagaland who were attacked for selling non-vegetarian and northeastern food. It is disheartening to see our brothers from the northeastern region being targeted and discriminated against for their cultural identity and food choices.

Let us spread love and compassion, not hate and hostility.”

Moreover, the criminals attacked the couple for selling meat and other non-vegetarian items and issued a warning against the sale of such items in the state.

The two Naga youngsters were also threatened with death if they ventured to sell non-vegetarian food in Gujarat once more by the assailants.

The injured Naga youths were picked up by their boss and taken right away to a hospital. An FIR has reportedly been filed in connection with the situation in the interim.

On the other hand ,according to police, a gang of members of an upper caste were furious with a Dalit guy for wearing "good clothes and sunglasses" and beat him up in a village in Gujarat's Banaskantha district.

On October 20, Govind Vaghela and his family went to the Ram temple in Ner village to pray during a rite. A week later, the enraged Hindu men sent animals into the field of the Dalit man to destroy the standing crop.

In 2014, seven men thrashed two call centre workers from Nagaland with cricket bats and hockey sticks in Gurgaon. A day after the attack on Manipuri men in Bangalore, two young men from Nagaland were brutally beaten up in Gurgaon by a gang of locals.
