Guwahati: Amid the ongoing political storm within the MVA government in Maharashtra, which turned into a full-fledged crisis, Rebel Maharashtra minister Eknath Shinde has left the Radisson Blu Hotel in Guwahati on June 24 and is headed to Mumbai, where he will meet Deputy Speaker Narhari Sitaram Zirwal.

This comes after the president of Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC), Bhupen Kumar Borah asked the rebel Shiv Sena leader and his troupe of MLAs residing in Guwahati to vacate the state at the earliest as his presence is putting the state in a negative light.

The APCC president penned a letter to the rebel leader Shinde, where he wrote, "Your presence in Guwahati with MLAs of the ruling Shiv Sena from Maharashtra, who have been kept in a hotel for alleged horse-trading to topple the elected Government of Maharashtra and the continued media coverage of the same, has not gone well with the Assamese people and is creating an unhealthy atmosphere."

"Moreover, Assam is facing a devastating flood situation and the flood-affected people are suffering severely in absence of adequate flood reliefs. According to government data, altogether 107 people have died in flood and landslides since April 6, out of which 65 since June 14 only and 55 lakh people of 32 districts out of 35 districts are adversely affected," he added.

"In such a critical and deplorable situation of the state, your presence in Guwahati and the busy activities of Assam Govt. in providing royal hospitality to you, is quite unfair and unacceptable. Assam has been defamed by your presence considering Guwahati as a safe heaven for MLAs who have no respect for constitutional values and loyalty at all," he further added.

Borah also alleged that this entire episode has been a huge distraction and it has completely shifted focus from the ongoing flooding in the state.

Bhupen Borah also hit out at Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma stating that his government's support to Shinde and his companions has put the image of Assam and Assamese people in jeopardy.
