His Holiness the Dalai Lama to discuss climate change with Greta Thunberg in January 2021

Dharamshala: Nobel Peace Laureate and spiritual leader the Dalai Lama will sit down for a face-to-face talk with climate change activist Greta Thunberg and many other leading scientists on January 10, 2021.

The Dalai Lama will join in for a conversation on the crisis of climate feedback loops. The special live stream event is going to be free and is being organised by the Mind & Life Institute.

According to the institute, the effects of human-induced climate change, from the destruction of forests to the liquefying of permafrost, have set ceaseless feedback loops into motion that are accelerating global warming.

Diana Chapman Walsh is going to moderate the discussion and had grounded in a new series of educational films, "Climate Emergency: Feedback Loops," which will be narrated by Richard Gere.

Arctic Program Director of Woodwell Climate Research Centre's Leading scientists Susan Natali, and William Moomaw, Professor Emeritus of International Environmental Policy at Tufts University and the lead author of several reports for the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), which had received the Nobel Peace Prize in 2007, will be contributing their scientific expertise to the conversation.

In his new book, "Our Only Home: A Climate Appeal to the World", The Dalai Lama speaks about the urgent need for climate action and praises Greta Thunberg and other young climate activists for their determination to bring about a positive change in the world of the environment which the general population is not taking heed of.

The Mind & Life Institute had said that recent scientific findings will be highlighted in the live stream event, along with the ethical imperative of taking action, and what we can do collectively to slow, halt, and even reverse the devastating impact of climate feedback loops.

His Holiness the Dalai Lama is one of the earliest advocates for environmental protection and sustainability. In recognition of his contribution, His Holiness was awarded the United Nation Earth Prize in 1991. He is one of the first Nobel Laureate to be recognised, among others, for their environmental conservation effort.
