Husband bets wife in gambling, loses her, friends gang rape wife in Jaunpur, UP

Alcohol and gambling addiction can drive one fanatic and hopeless and proving that once again, a heinous incident of crime has taken place in the country. This is an incident of a husband betting his wife on gambling, losing her on stake to friends and then his friends gang-raping her in Jaunpur district of Uttar Pradesh.

As complained by the victim in the court, her husband is an alcoholic who often lives under the spell of alcohol and passes time in gambling with his friends Anil and Arun. On a particular day last month, these two friends had come for gambling at her husband’s place and on losing everything in the gambling, her husband betted her as well. However, he loses her too to his friends as a result of which his friends gang-raped her.

Heartbroken, angry and cheated by husband, she goes to her maternal uncle's house. However, her husband followed her, begs her apology for whatever he did with her and also said that it was a mistake. On being requested to go back with him, she feels that her husband has realized his mistake. But when she came back with him in his car, he stopped the car midway and let his friend rape her once again.

This made her approach the Zafarabad police station to file a complaint but the police stations denied taking her complaint. She knocked the doors of the court at this and the court ordered the police station to register her complaint.

Such incidents of putting wife on a bet for some social evils like gambling is unacceptable and highly condemnable. On such grounds, the alleged husband and his gambling friends are worth being punished with exemplary punishments so that no wife in future gets to be exploited and misused by any man.
