"I feel Woman Should Not Step Out in the Evening Alone": NCW Member on Badaun Gangrape Case

UTTAR PRADESH: National Commission for Women member Chandramukhi Devi made it to the headlines when she commented on the Uttar Pradesh's Badaun gangrape case.

According to reports, Chandramukhi Devi visited the village where a 50-year-old woman was allegedly gang-raped said the incident would not have happened had the woman not stepped out alone in the evening.

"I feel had the woman not stepped out in the evening, or one of her children had accompanied her, the incident would not have occurred", said the National Commission for Women member.

It is to be mentioned that a middle-aged woman was gang-raped and brutally killed at Uttar Pradesh's Badaun.

Reportedly, the three accused in the case, the temple priest and his two disciples, severely injured the woman's private parts by inserting a rod and killed her in the temple.

The accused have been identified as Mahant Baba Satyanarayana, his disciple Vedram and driver Jaspal. The incident reportedly took place in Mewari village under Uighati police station. The Uighati police have already booked the three accused under IPC Sections 376-d (gang-rape) and 302 (murder). 

Notably, after a five-day run, the main accused- the priest, who is the main accused in the alleged gang rape of an Anganwadi worker in this Uttar Pradesh district, was interrogated throughout Friday night after his arrest.

Meanwhile, the post-mortem report confirmed rape, and there were injuries in her private parts and a fracture in the leg.

Following this, based on a complaint filed by her family members, a case was registered against the priest and his two aides at Ughaiti police station under 376 (d) and 302 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

The station in-charge of Ughaiti police station was suspended for negligence after a probe ordered by Sankalp Sharma, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Budaun found him guilty.

On the other hand, former Samajwadi Party MP Dharmendra Yadav said that crime against women is at its peak under the Yogi government.
