NEW DELHI: Indian Air Force (IAF) Wing Commander Kuldeep Baghela was arrested by Madhya Pradesh Special Task Force (STF) for faking a phone call to the state Governor Lalji Tandon. The caller pretended to be Home Minister, Amit Shah. His friend Chandresh Kumar Shukla was also arrested for posing as Amit Shah's PA.
Baghela had called to recommend his dentist friend Shukla as the vice-chancellor at Madhya Pradesh Medical Science University (MPMSU) in Jabalpur.
"We have arrested IAF Wing Commander Kuldeep Baghela on the charge of impersonating as Union Home Minister Amit Shah during a phone call to the state governor to influence the appointment for the post of vice-chancellor," he said, according to media reports.
The police said that Shukla had asked Baghela if he could get someone important in the political circle to help him. Baghela assured that he could get the Home Minister. When that did not happen, he posed as the Home Minister and called the governor.
The staff at the governor's resident got suspicious and called the Home Minister's office for confirmation that denied making any such calls.
The incident was then reported to STF which made the arrests.
According to reports, Baghela had earlier worked as the aide-de-camp (ADC) of former MP governor Ramnaresh Yadav.
